Guided Funnel Arch Canyoneering Adventure in Moab

Funnel Arch is like a natural playground sculpted from ancient desert rock, offering one of the most fun and approachable canyoneering-style adventures near Moab. This guided outing combines a little hiking, a little scrambling, a short roped-climbing section, and a couple of exciting rappels—including a longest rappel of 100 feet. It’s beginner friendly, incredibly engaging, and a perfect way to experience the Moab desert from a whole new perspective.

If you’re looking for a guided adventure that feels playful rather than intimidating, Funnel Arch delivers. This trip is less about technical difficulty and more about movement, exploration, and soaking in the sculpted sandstone landscape. It’s a true romp through the desert and a great introduction to rappelling and light technical terrain for first-timers, families, and adventurous travelers of all ages.

What to Expect on the Funnel Arch Adventure

After a 15–20 minute drive from Moab, we’ll park and hike into the canyon, immediately surrounded by classic red rock scenery. The approach is straightforward and scenic, making it accessible without feeling rushed or overly strenuous. The first scramble comes just a few minutes up the trail and serves as a fun warm-up, getting everyone comfortable moving on rock.

From there, we hike upward through beautiful water runnels carved into the sandstone, passing beneath Funnel Arch itself before climbing a smooth saddle that leads us to the top of our first rappel. This section offers great views and a chance to get comfortable with basic movement and exposure, all under the guidance of your experienced instructor.

Once rigged, we’ll descend our first rappel and pause beneath the arch—a perfect place to take in the scale and beauty of the formation. From here, we wind our way toward the second rappel, which drops into a deep desert crack, revealing a narrow stone hallway at the bottom. This rappel is often a highlight of the trip, offering a dramatic yet approachable descent into one of Moab’s hidden features.

The adventure finishes with a fun down-climb through a narrow slot canyon, tying together all the elements of the day: scrambling, rappelling, and playful movement through sculpted rock. Throughout the trip, your guide will provide clear instruction, encouragement, and hands-on support, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Beginner-Friendly Moab Adventure for Families and First-Timers

Funnel Arch is an excellent choice for those new to rappelling or canyoneering-style adventures. No prior climbing or technical experience is required, and the pace is designed to be relaxed and engaging. This trip is suitable for ages 6 and up, making it a great option for families, groups, and anyone looking to try something new in the Moab area. While still doable in the hotter months with an early start, this tour is quite exposed to the sun, so for Summer days we recommend a Canyon that includes water.

Duration & Trip Details

This is typically a 4-hour trip, town to town, making it an ideal half-day adventure that fits easily into a busy Moab itinerary. The timing allows for a full experience without feeling rushed, and it pairs well with other outdoor activities or travel plans.
