Entrajo Canyon

A stunning, beginner friendly canyoneering adventure carved by time, nestled beneath the majestic La Sal Mountains.

Guided Entrajo Canyon Canyoneering Adventure in Moab

Entrajo Canyon is one of the most popular canyoneering routes in Moab, and it’s easy to see why. This classic desert canyon delivers a perfect mix of hiking, scrambling, rappelling, and playful movement through sculpted sandstone, all wrapped into a half-day adventure that’s approachable for beginners and exciting for experienced explorers alike. With its flowing lines, carved bowls, and dramatic final rappel, Entrajo offers a true taste of Moab canyoneering in a compact, unforgettable experience.

The adventure begins with a beautiful 30–45 minute hike starting near Mill Creek, setting the tone for the day as you move from open desert terrain into the winding sandstone corridor of the canyon. Once inside, Entrajo reveals a series of smooth, water-sculpted bowls where you’ll scoot, slide, downclimb, and rappel your way through the canyon. It’s dynamic, interactive, and incredibly fun—less about speed and more about enjoying the movement and scenery.

What to Expect in Entrajo Canyon

After a 20–25 minute drive south of Moab, we’ll park and begin the approach hike, which typically takes around one hour. The trail is scenic and moderately paced, offering great views and a chance to warm up before entering the technical sections of the canyon.

Once inside Entrajo, the canyon immediately becomes more playful. Expect technical butt scooting, short scrambles, and your first roped section—a 20-foot rappel that, while short, introduces important technical skills and movement. After scrambling over a wedged boulder, you’ll encounter a short chimney downclimb, completed with a belay for added safety, which drops you into one of the canyon’s pools.

Water is a defining feature of Entrajo. Depending on the season and recent weather, potholes may be anywhere from knee-deep to a mandatory swim, so it’s best to come prepared to get wet. While you’ll likely get soaked earlier in the canyon, you’ll usually be dry again by the time you reach the final rappel.

The trip concludes with one of Entrajo’s highlights: a stunning 110-foot rappel back to the canyon floor. This rappel is tall, scenic, and incredibly satisfying, offering a memorable finish to the day and a true sense of accomplishment.

Beginner-Friendly Moab Canyoneering with a Splash of Adventure

Entrajo Canyon is considered a beginner-friendly canyoneering route, making it a popular choice for families, first-time canyon explorers, and adventurous travelers of all ages. No previous rappelling experience is required—your guide will provide thorough instruction, manage all technical systems, and support you every step of the way.

Because much of the canyon stays shaded, Entrajo can feel cool and refreshing on warm days, but it can also be chilly if temperatures are below 80°F. Choosing the right clothing and layers is key to staying comfortable throughout the trip.

Duration & Timing

This is typically a 4-hour trip, town to town, making it an excellent half-day adventure that fits easily into a Moab itinerary. Timing may vary slightly depending on group size, pace, and conditions, but the trip is designed to fit within a half day.

What to Bring

Please bring quick-drying clothing, an extra warm layer, and a small to medium backpack to carry your essentials. Close-toed hiking shoes are required. We recommend 3 liters of water per person when temperatures are above 90°F, and 2 liters per person in cooler conditions. Lunch and snacks, a hat, sunglasses, and sun protection (sun shirt, sunscreen, chapstick) are essential.

A dry bag is strongly recommended for items that cannot get wet—we’re happy to loan one if you don’t have your own.

Gear Provided

We provide all technical equipment, including ropes, harnesses, helmets, and rappelling devices. Your guide will handle all rigging and safety systems while offering clear instruction and enthusiastic coaching throughout the day, allowing you to focus on having fun and exploring the canyon with confidence.

If you’re looking for a classic, beginner-friendly canyoneering adventure in Moab that blends movement, water, and unforgettable rappels, Entrajo Canyon is an excellent choice for all ages and experience levels.
