guided rappelling &
canyoneering

No trip to Moab would be complete without an excursion into some of its many canyons. With hiking, rappelling, scrambling and meandering, these trips are great for a wide variety of ages, abilities and fitness levels. If you love hiking but wish it were a little more adventurous, canyoneering is for you! Many of you have heard of Canyoning or Abseiling, and by most respects they are the same activity. What makes it Canyoneering it that it is unique to the Colorado Plateau, and involves hiking and rappelling through canyons and slot canyons of the desert. While Canyoning always involves water, many of the Canyoneering trips we offer are completely dry, though some have seasonal water in them.

Between Hidden arches, slot canyons and dry waterfalls, the landscapes around Moab are like giant playgrounds, with wind and water etching away the sandstone to create beautiful and unique layers and shapes that often require rappelling to explore!

Faith Dickey of Elevate Outdoors guides a Moab Visitor up a climbing route on Funnel Arch during a Canyoneering Tour.

If you want to try both climbing and rappelling this is the trip for you! The Funnel Arch tour is the perfect mix of climbing, scrambling, rappelling and hiking! With unbeatable views, a pristine desert arch, and a short drive from town, this trip does not disappoint. Excellent for adventurers of all ages. No experience required.

Rappelling Course 1/2 Day

Max rappels with safe and expert instruction from Moab Guide Faith Dickey during a Rappelling Course in Moab.

Rappelling or Abseiling, call it what you will, we teach it! Want a more focused course on the basics of rappelling safely down ropes? Perhaps you are a climber and have yet to learn, or maybe you rappelled years ago and want a refresher! Spend a half day learning the most up-to-date techniques for rappelling, understanding different rappel devices, and methods of rappelling quickly and safely in different terrain. This course is especially useful for those looking to get into canyoneering independently but want a solid foundation of knowledge before doing it without a guide. No experience required, though some experience is a plus. This course will touch on anchor systems, setting up an independent rappel with a backup, and proper technique.
