You've probably heard of Ancient Art, and it is for good reason. This climb is iconic and fun!
What to expect: After a 45 minute drive from Moab, we will hike twenty minutes through the beautiful Fisher Towers to the base of Ancient Art. The first pitch is an easy warm up, followed by a short, technical bolted face. If the climbing is too hard, don't be afraid to pull on the quickdraw's to get yourself through it! The second pitch is a fun stemming-chimney, and the third pitch is another short face climb. The last pitch--the reason everyone does this climb, starts with the infamous "Diving Board," a fun, narrow sidewalk floating in the sky that takes you to the final corkscrew summit. Test your fear by walking, or test your pride by crawling or scooting across the diving board, we support whichever is the safest for you! Once you reach the top, you can test your fear once again by stepping onto the small 2' x 2' summit!
Ancient Art is best suited for those with some climbing experience. This climb is rated 5.10d or 5.10 A0 if you pull on the quickdraws. It is a true multi pitch, with multiple rappels to descend. Expect early start times to stay ahead of crowds in peak season, and in Summer to beat the heat. We recommend you tick this summit soon, before erosion does!
Duration: This is a typically a half to three quarter day, so 4-6 hours town to town.
What to Bring: Close-toed Hiking shoes, 3-4 liters of water per person, lunch and snacks, a hat, sunglasses, sun protection (sunshirt, sunscreen, chapstick, etc). Recommended: Small backpack to carry some water up the climb.
All technical gear will be provided, such as ropes, climbing hardware, helmets, belay devices, harnesses and shoes. If you have your own gear and wish to use it, that is more than welcome, we just need to take a look at it to be sure you aren't rolling up with a 1985 harness from your grandpa!
